ADI DRAVIDAR AND TRIBAL WELFARE

The Government is Implementing Various Welfare Schemes for the Educational, Economical and Social upliftment of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribals. The majority of the Adi Dravidar and Tribal population or economically Backward and Socially marginalized. Most of the Families lack resources and their access to Education, Employment and Other Income -Earning opportunities are limited. The Government provides Scholarships, Hostels facilities, Bicycles for the Educational advancement of Students of these Communities. The Govt also runs GTR Schools for the Educational upliftment of the ST Community. In order to promote livelihood opportunities of the poor of these Communities. The Govt Implements Schemes such as distribution of Sewing Machines, Iron Box, House Sites through the Tamilnadu Adi Dravidar Welfare Department further the Govt provides various Social Welfare Assistance to the People of SC / ST Communities through Welfare board Constituted for the Communities.

5 Private Subsidy Hostels Under Government Hostels of Adi Dravidar & Tribal Welfare there are 36 subsidised Hostels run by voluntary organisations. Students studying in these hostel are provided Food Charges, Miscelleaneous Expenses, Atlas, Dictionary, Mat, Bed Sheet, Uniform and Stitching Charges by
this Department.

Economic Development for SC /ST

1 Financial Assistance to candidates appearing for Civil Services Main Examination To encourage the SC youth to join Civil Services, Financial assistance of Rs.50,000/- is given per candidate, who has passed Civil Services Preliminary Examination and to prepare for Civil Services main examination
  1. Applicant should have passed the Civil Services Preliminary examination
  2. The applicant should not be a permanent / temporary employee of Central / State Government / Public Sector undertakings.
2 Financial Assistance to Law Graduates
An amount of Rs.50,000/- is given as financial assistance to law graduate to set up their profession
  1. Applicant should be a SC Candidate.
  2. The applicant should be in the age group of 21 – 45 years
  3. The applicant should be a Law Graduate
  4. The applicant should qualify the law graduation course completion of three or five years duration period
  5. The candidate should be a member of State / Central Bar Council
  6. Law Graduate should be a practicing advocate in a court.
  7. This financial assistance (should be given one time only)

Removal of Untouchability

1 Assistance to SC/ST people affected by Riots The Sc & ST (POA) Act 2015 and Rules – 2016 to prevent atrocities on the SCs and STs
  1. A sum of Rs.8.25 Lakhs maximum is awarded as compensation for the family who lost life in the riots.
  2. Basic pension to the widow or persons belonging to SC or ST amounting to Rs.50,000/- per month as
    applicable to a Government servant with admissible D.A and employment to one of the family members of the deceased and provision for agricultural land and house, etc
2 Select Village Scheme – Under this scheme a sum of Rs.10 Lakhs is sanctioned to each village in a district (except Chennai) A Village where Untouchability is not followed and people are living harmoniously

Provision of Basic Amenities to Adi Dravidar and Tribal Habitations

4 Community Halls – Adi Dravidar and Tribal habitation for conducting social functions like marriages, meetings etc. Habitation without Community Halls
5 Assistance for Funeral Rites A sum of Rs.2,500/- is given as subsidy for meeting expenses on funeral rites of poor
